Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Tuesday expressed his concerns about near misses at airports following a deadly plane collision earlier this year.
“Of course I am concerned. The FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] is concerned. The American people are concerned. What we are doing is not ignoring like the last administration,” Duffy told NewsNation, The Hill’s sister station.
“We are actually looking at it and figuring out how we navigate our airspace and make it safer because again near misses one day can lead to a devastating crash the next,” he added.
The Transportation Secretary blamed the Biden administration for close calls at airports.
“Pete Buttigieg OVERRULED safety recommendations about putting up wind turbines near railroads, highways, and aviation sites- all in the name of his GREEN AGENDA SCAM. This put lives at risk and is UNACCEPTABLE,” Duffy wrote in a Tuesday post on the social media platform X.
He cited a New York Post article reporting that Buttigieg ignored concerns flagged by the department.
“I am calling on Congress to uncover how far this cover-up went. Safety is ALWAYS a #1 PRIORITY for me and @POTUS,” he added.
In recent months, Duffy has pledged to revamp air safety protocols and increase air traffic control staffers following issues with aviation communications and near misses at airports.
The January plane collision between a commercial jet and military helicopter near Washington left 67 people dead.
