News anchor and journalist Brian Williams admonished Democrats for how they handled the 2024 election and said the party had “gone quinoa while the rest of America is eating at Cracker Barrel.”
“It is tough love time for the Democratic Party,” Williams said during an interview with NBC “Late Night” host Seth Meyers that aired Wednesday night. “I think it needs to be stripped down and rebuilt.”
National Democrats need new leadership, Williams said, knocking party leaders for initially putting President Biden up for reelection before he was forced to drop out over concerns about his health and electoral viability.
But the major problem for Democrats, the anchor said, is the “insulting” way the party seemingly dismissed voter concerns on issues such as immigration and the economy.
“Tell them the NASDAQ is gangbusters in further insulting,” he said. “For the working class to see incoming migrants getting welcome bags, debit cards and motel rooms is probably insulting as well, so there is a lot of work to do.”
Williams was a longtime anchor at NBC News and host on MSNBC who left the network in 2021.
He anchored Amazon’s election night special earlier this month, the tech giant’s first foray into live news.
