A growing number of Americans are getting their news from TikTok, according to new analysis from the Pew Research Center.

Pew reported on Thursday that a fifth of U.S. adults turn to the social media platform for news content and development on current events, representing a three percent increase from 2020.

This trend is particularly true among young Americans, Pew found, noting 43 percent of adults under 30 say they regularly get news from TikTok, an sharp increase from nine percent in 2020.

More than half of of U.S. adult TikTok users reported getting their news from the platform, Pew reported, up double digit percentage points since the pandemic.

In addition to news content, TikTok is home to a growing number of influencers on pop culture, food and sports.

President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order that approved a deal to keep the Chinese-owned social media platform operational in the U.S.

The platform is expected to be spun off into a U.S.-based entity in the coming months amid concerns about national security.

The Pew study was conducted among more than 5,000 American adults from Aug. 18 to 25.
