House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Senator Chuck Grassley revealed on Wednesday that a whistleblower has come forward, alleging the FBI and Justice Department possess a document detailing a criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national concerning the exchange of money for policy decisions.
Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, and Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, stated that the whistleblower claims the document provides a precise description of the alleged criminal scheme’s method and purpose.
The document in question, an FBI-generated FD-1023 form, reportedly outlines an arrangement that involves the exchange of money for policy decisions. Comer issued a subpoena following legally protected disclosures to Grassley’s office.
Grassley expressed concern over the allegations implicating the current President of the United States, stressing the importance of understanding the FBI’s actions to verify these claims or further investigate.
He cited the FBI’s recent history of mishandling politically charged investigations as necessitating close congressional oversight.
Comer echoed Grassley’s concerns, stating that the information suggests a potential bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national.
He emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth to ensure accountability for the American people.
Both Comer and Grassley informed FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland of the “legally protected and highly credible unclassified whistleblower disclosures” on Wednesday.
They noted that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) allegedly possess an unclassified FD-1023 form detailing the supposed criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national in relation to exchanging money for policy decisions.
The lawmakers pointed out that the document’s alleged specificity suggests the DOJ and the FBI possess sufficient information to determine the truth and accuracy of its contents.
However, they added that it remains unclear what steps, if any, were taken to investigate the matter.
They cited significant public interest in assessing the FBI’s response to this information and growing concerns about the DOJ and the FBI’s track record of allowing political bias to influence their decision-making process, necessitating thorough congressional oversight.
Comer and Grassley emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, notifying Wray and Garland that Congress will conduct an independent and objective review of the matter, free from the influence of these agencies.
Comer’s committee has been investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, the involvement of the Biden family, and any potential involvement by President Biden.
He has cautioned that business ventures with individuals in China, Ukraine, and other countries may pose a national security risk.
Since 2019, Grassley has been investigating Hunter Biden’s business dealings and any alleged involvement by Joe Biden in the Senate.
The White House has consistently maintained that the president never discussed his son’s business dealings, nor was he involved in them.
Officials have also stated that the president has not discussed investigations into his family members with the Justice Department.
