Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie sat down with Fox News contributor Piers Morgan on Tuesday, ahead of the 2024 primary debates.
During the interview Morgan asked Christie about his gender identity: “Just to clarify, you won’t be identifying as a woman if you get to the presidency, right?”
Christie responded, “Piers, I don’t think there’s anybody who looks less like a woman than me.”
Their conversation moved quickly beyond this initial question and into the core issues Christie says he wants to address if he advances to the primary debates stage.
Key among these issues is Christie’s critique of former President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, particularly concerning Russia and North Korea.
Christie did not mince words when speaking of Trump’s past relations with North Korea, criticizing Trump for praising the North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un.
“I don’t think, by calling Kim Jong-un a great guy, he stopped him from continuing to develop missile technology that now allows those missiles to reach the United States. That happened on Donald Trump’s watch. And Putin continued to build up his military and build forces onto the border, and he doesn’t answer for that either. And he doesn’t answer for holding back military aid from Ukraine to try to get dirt on Joe Biden.”
“I mean, all those things are not things that send confidence to world leaders or fear in the hearts of despots,” Christie added. “But these are the things I want to debate on the stage with him, Piers.”
Trump defended his decision to withhold aid from Ukraine in 2019, citing that other European nations were not contributing their fair share.
Despite this claim, he has also proposed peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and confidently promised a resolution to the war between the two countries within “24 hours.”
