In an incident that took place earlier this week, President Joe Biden attempted to interact with the King’s Royal Guard during his recent state visit, only to be courteously ushered onward by King Charles III.
Renowned for their stoic demeanor and stringent protocol, the King’s Royal Guard are well-respected figures in Britain, viewed as the epitome of fortitude and discipline.
Traditionally, these exemplary servicemen are prohibited from conversing with anyone outside the monarchy and tourists who disrupt their routine, according to an analysis by Reader’s Digest.
President Biden, despite visiting in an official capacity, seemingly veered from the traditional diplomatic protocols, taking on a casual demeanor that saw him attempting to engage the Royal Guard in conversation.
This exchange, however, was promptly redirected by King Charles III, who can be seen in a Twitter-shared video subtly guiding the American president away from the guard – a move that could be likened to a courteous redirection at a family gathering.
As the incident was captured from a distance, the specifics of the conversation between the two heads of state remain a mystery.
Still, it’s fair to say King Charles III’s reaction suggested a certain weariness, possibly hinting at the unexpected nature of President Biden’s actions.
Reaction on social media to Biden’s misstep and King Charles’ recovery was harsh.
Fortunately, the Royal Guard maintained their traditional composure, a contrast to an incident in April 2023 when a tourist overstepped their boundaries.
It would seem Biden needs an escort everywhere he goes.
