A recently shared video on Twitter has sparked intense controversy, featuring a grown man with a mustache wearing a dress while interacting with young girls at Disneyland’s renowned “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.”
The clip, uploaded by Jason Jones, has ignited a debate surrounding gender norms and the theme park’s decision to allow men to wear dresses in this magical setting.
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, as described by Disneyland Resort, is a whimsical destination where aspiring princesses between the ages of 3 and 12 can experience enchanting makeovers fit for royalty.
However, Disney’s latest move to permit men to wear dresses at this formerly beloved venue has raised eyebrows and divided opinions.
The man who posted the video, Jason Jones, also had more to say on the subject:
Prior to this Disneyland Resort, in a rather public manner, announced their decision to embrace gender inclusivity by allowing men to participate in the dress-up experience once the pandemic comes to an end.
Inside the Magic reports:
Boutique Cast Members were formerly called “Fairy Godmothers in Training” but will now be called “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices,” according to an update on Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort’s websites.
This change is more gender inclusive and will allow Cast Members who don’t identify as female to participate in magical “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeovers.”
…
This is just one of the many ways Disney is trying to push more inclusivity. Recently Disney changed the opening to the fireworks shows as they removed the phrase ”Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls”. Disney Cast Members also have a less strict dress code as it, too, has become more gender-inclusive.
Sadly this seems to signal a significant shift in Disney’ approach to how they treat their “guests” and it’s time people find other ways to spend their hard-earned money and entertain their children.
