NextImg:Walmart Fairing Just Fine With Current Pride Merchandise While Target Is Getting Decimated Over New Items

As Target faces backlash over its recent Pride merchandise, rival retailer Walmart has taken a different approach.

Latriece Watkins, Walmart’s Chief Merchandising Officer, stated that their LGBTQ+ merchandise has not changed and is unlikely to do so.

“I think we have merchandise that we sell all year that supports different groups. I’d say in this particular case, we haven’t changed anything in our assortment,” said Watkins

Additionally, the company has not implemented any specific changes to their security measures.

“I wouldn’t say that there’s anything in particular that we’ve done differently related to security,” she added.

When questioned about Target’s controversy during Walmart’s associate and shareholder week, Watkins refrained from commenting directly on the situation or elaborating on Walmart’s own Pride merchandise styles.

A search on the Walmart website revealed a wide range of Pride-related products, including apparel, beauty items, and accessories. Their “Pride and Joy” collection even highlights LGBTQIA-founded brands.

Walmart’s middle-of-the-road strategy has effectively shielded the retail giant from becoming embroiled in social politics and corporate wokeness.

Walmart U.S. CEO Doug McMillon explicitly stated that the company does not seek to make social and political statements, emphasizing their goal of creating a comfortable shopping environment for all customers and fostering a positive workplace atmosphere.

Walmart does not “wake up in the morning wanting to go and make social and political statements,” McMillon told is shareholders.

“We’re retailer,” he added. “We want everybody to feel comfortable shopping with us…and we want everybody to feel comfortable and excited about working at Walmart,” he continued.

Unlike Target, which has faced huge pushback over their new pride products featuring a “tuck-friendly” swimsuit, Walmart has not relocated its Pride sections or encountered similar controversy.

Target’s Gay Pride collection has been plagued with controversy. It came under scrutiny for its connection to designer Erik Carnell of Abprallen, who promotes occult imagery and features messages like “Satan respects pronouns” on brand apparel.

Additionally, Target has an ongoing financial relationship with GSLEN, known for its aggressive push for gender ideology in K-12 schools nationwide to which the company has donated over $2.1 million.

The controversy surrounding Target’s Pride merchandise has taken a toll on the company’s market value, with over $14 billion lost in market cap and shares reaching a three-year low.

In contrast, Walmart’s shares have experienced a 4% increase year-to-date, while Target has seen a 12% decline.
