In a recent online exchange, University of British Columbia journalism professor, Dr. Katja Thieme, sparked controversy with her views on helping children avoid problems coping with trans people in locker rooms as adults.
Her controversial comments came about in response to transgender athlete Lia Thomas competing in women’s sports and a subsequent video featuring swimmer Riley Gaines discussing the impact of allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports.
Thieme suggested a rather unconventional parenting approach. Her comments quickly ignited a heated debate over transgender rights and the boundaries of privacy.
Thieme took to social media, proposing that parents should expose young children to adult genitalia, arguing that it would “normalize” seeing biological men naked in spaces traditionally reserved for females.
The professor urged her followers to allow children to view “penises and vulvas of various ages and sizes” in a casual and safe manner. She claimed that society and future generations would ultimately benefit from this approach.
These remarks drew significant backlash, leading Thieme to make her posts private in response to the intense criticism. Despite her attempt to shield her comments from public view, her words had already garnered attention and were met with strong opposition.
Adding to the controversy, Thieme took aim at Riley Gaines, labeling the women’s advocate as “whiny” for expressing emotional distress over Lia Thomas holding a trophy she had also won. The professor’s characterization of Gaines as a “sore not-even-loser” further fueled the heated discussion.
Dr. Thieme also ventured into the realm of transgender rights activism, asserting that incidents involving women feeling uncomfortable in the presence of biological males in locker rooms could contribute to what she referred to as “anti-trans activism.”
According to the Daily Mail, Tieme said:
“Teenage girl on the swim team sees or claims to have seen a trans person in the nude in the women’s changeroom. Her anti-trans parent or parents kick into high gear.;
“They lean on coaches: Tell trans folk to change elsewhere. Coach says, no, we can’t, that’s discriminatory.
“They lean on the club admin: Send a warning message to all members that trans folk are using these facilities. Admin says, hell no, that’s crazy and would be very wrong.
“They contact Riley Gaines or other transphobes of their choice, they organize protests, events, meetings, hearings, and whatnot.”
According Gays Against Groomers, Thieme’s inappropriate and verging on child abuse suggestion is proof that “We are in hell. This is hell.”
Another commented, “This is simply sexualizing children at an age when they aren’t yet able to understand these things. It’s immoral, perverted and creepy AF. Get some help ‘Dr’.”
Professor Thieme is a classic example of what has happened in the world’s institutions of higher learning, the complete and total degradation of anything moral. If this line of thinking continues and is adopted as “normal” we will certainly be in “hell.”
