As the Biden administration continues to face criticism for its handling of the economy, businesses across the nation are feeling the pinch.
Iconic weight loss brand Jenny Craig and popular home-goods retailer Christmas Tree Shops are the latest victims of the current economic climate, with both companies reportedly closing outlets and facing financial challenges.
Jenny Craig, a renowned weight loss company, is set to close centers nationwide and in Canada due to its inability to secure additional financing.
In an email to employees, the company announced that corporate and salaried field employees’ last day would be Friday, while hourly center employees’ last day was on Tuesday.
The company has been going through a sales process for the last few months, and a letter sent to some workers revealed that it would be “winding down physical operations.”
The company told NBC News that it “is embarking on the next phase of our business to evolve with the changing landscape of today’s consumers.”
The statement continued, “Like many other companies, we’re currently transitioning from a brick-and-mortar retail business to a customer-friendly, e-commerce driven model.”
Meanwhile, Christmas Tree Shops, a home-goods retailer now known as CTS, is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy.
The Wall Street Journal cited anonymous sources suggesting that the earliest a filing might occur is before the start of next week.
Bed Bath & Beyond sold Christmas Tree Shops to Handil Holdings in November 2020, and the privately held CTS is currently led by Pam and Marc Salkovitz.
The closure of these iconic brands points to the ongoing economic struggles faced by businesses under the Biden administration.
Critics argue that the Democrats’ mismanagement of the economy is contributing to a challenging environment for enterprises nationwide.
With inflation soaring and supply chain issues persisting, many companies are grappling with the consequences of the administration’s policies.
As businesses continue to shutter their doors and lay off employees, the impact on everyday Americans becomes increasingly apparent.
The closures of Jenny Craig centers and Christmas Tree Shops outlets are a stark reminder of the economic challenges the country is facing.
