Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson made his first public address since being abruptly let go from the network.
In a video released on his Twitter account Wednesday night, the conservative commentator did not provide an explanation for his departure or reveal his future plans. He did take the opportunity to share an uplifting message and critique of the state of American media.
Carlson began the video as though he was opening another segment of his former show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” with his typical “Good evening,” he said.
He expressed gratitude for the many “genuinely nice people” he had encountered in the country since his separation from Fox News.
“Kind and decent people, people who really care about what’s true, and a bunch of hilarious people,” Carlson said.
He then remarked that their kindness and humor had been “heartening” during this time.
Turning his attention to cable news, Carlson surprised many by criticizing the medium he had been a part of until Monday.
He called televised debates “unbelievably stupid” and “completely irrelevant,” stating, “In five years, we won’t even remember that we had them,” he said. “Trust me as someone who has participated.”
The former host went on to accuse the nation’s elites of effectively banning meaningful debates, stating they are no longer “permitted in American media.”
Carlson specifically highlighted the lack of discussion on pressing topics such as war, natural resources, demographic changes, and civil liberties.
He claimed that both the Republican and Democratic parties actively suppressed debates on these subjects, resulting in “virtually no coverage at all.”
“Suddenly, the United States looks very much like a one-party state,” he said.
According to Carlson, those in power are aware of this situation. “That’s why they’re hysterical and aggressive. They’re afraid,” he said.

Carlson then switched his tone to optimism. “It won’t work,” he said. “When honest people say what’s true, calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful.”
He said, if Americans articulate their position in meaningful ways, those currently in power will become “weaker.”
He continued his message of encouragement with, “As long as you can hear the words, there is hope.”
He ended the video with this cryptic message: “See you soon.”
The video was released at 8:01 p.m. ET, coinciding with the time when “Tucker Carlson Tonight” would have aired.
Fox News announced Carlson’s departure on Monday morning without providing any explanation. Neither the network nor the host has commented on the reasons for his termination.
Reports suggest that Carlson was blindsided by his firing, which occurred while his staff was preparing for Monday’s broadcast.

The network’s brief statement on Monday morning read, “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”
It remains to be seen what will happen to Fox and what Carlson will do next. There is no question he is wildly popular. At the time of this publication, Carlson’s twitter post has been viewed more than 54 million times.
