NextImg:The Alberta Uprising: Province Wants to Separate from Canada, Become 51st State

A movement is gathering momentum in the province of Alberta, Canada spearheaded by the Alberta 51 Project. This advocacy group’s primary objective is to sever the ties that bind Alberta to Canada and stitch it into the fabric of the United States, reimagining it as America’s 51st state.

A source close to the project, who has chosen to remain anonymous due to concerns over the increasing authoritarian grip of the Canadian government, expressed a profound fondness for the US over Canada.

“There’s an undeniable appeal to the U.S.’s republican system, freedom, and Constitution as opposed to Canada’s monarchy, which seems more like a dictatorship in disguise,” he disclosed to Fox News Digital.

Established in 2023, the Alberta 51 Project is dedicated to enlightening Albertans about the potential advantages of becoming part of the United States.

Their message seems to resonate with a significant minority across Canada. According to a recent Research Co. poll, approximately one in five Canadians across various provinces believe they would fare better under the governance of the United States.

The source attributed the birth of the Alberta 51 Project to growing dissatisfaction among Albertans with the Ottawa-based federal government. He pointed out the geographical and ideological divide that separates the eastern and western halves of Canada.

Albertans are known for their deep connection to the land, embodying a rugged cowboy spirit, a deep-rooted Indigenous spirit, and a diligent oil-and-gas ethos.

Their desire for minimal government interference aligns more with the American mindset than the Canadian governmental system, which leans towards socialist principles, the source suggested. “It’s a malignant affliction that seems to worsen with time,” he added.

When Justin Trudeau took office as Prime Minister, he made a statement that Canada lacked a unique culture, and instead, promoted globalism and multiculturalism.

This comment, according to the source, slighted Albertans and traditionalist Canadians from Saskatchewan, eastern British Columbia, and even the farthest western province, Yukon. Their worldviews mirror those of rural Americans in states like Montana and Texas.

The source also expressed concerns over the unfair distribution of wealth from the natural resources abundant in Alberta and similar provinces. Such exploitation has fostered a deep mistrust of large government institutions, he noted.

“The monarchy rules supreme in Canada. The Prime Minister and the Governor General merely act as its representatives. They merely stamp approval on anything the Prime Minister proposes,” he explained.

He highlighted the recent trucker convoy incident where Trudeau allegedly suspended people’s rights and freedoms without any pushback. “Unlike the U.S., we Canadians lack certain fundamental rights and freedoms,” he added.

The source further criticized Trudeau as a fascist, communist, and globalist who evades accountability because his administration appoints the country’s judges.

In a similar vein, Peter Downing, a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer and founder of the separatist movement “Wexit”—a term coined in response to Trudeau’s 2019 reelection—expressed that the Canadian government’s heavy-handed tactics during the COVID-19 pandemic have led Albertans to seek solace in their American neighbors.

Alberta’s pandemic response, particularly its high rate of clergy arrests, has attracted global attention due to the province’s rugged individualistic mindset, Downing shared.

“The socialist environment imposed by Ottawa is not well received here in Alberta,” Downing stated.

He noted that most Albertans are engaged in physical labor, particularly in the oil industry—the province’s biggest economic sector. “Albertans are younger and willing to work hard to earn more,” he added.

While the Alberta 51 Project is in a noble pursuit of freedom it is really a pipe dream, both because the U.S. is unlikely to consider it and because it seems to be following Canada’s socialists policies at a rapid rate.
