NextImg:Texas Gov. Abbott Slams Biden For Cutting Razor Wire at Border, Then Gives Him The Middle Finger

In a recent escalation of the ongoing tensions between the State of Texas and the Biden administration over border security, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that federal agents had dismantled razor wire installed by Texas at Eagle Pass. The development is an unsettling one for conservatives who have long been concerned about the porous nature of the Southern border.

“Texas installed razor wire in Eagle Pass to stop illegal crossings,” Abbott announced on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Today the Biden Admin CUT that wire, opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants.” The Texas Governor didn’t hold back in his criticism, rightly taking to task a federal administration that seems more intent on undoing state-level security measures than actually solving the crisis at the border.

Abbott further noted that, in response to the federal government’s actions, he had “immediately deployed more Texas National Guard to repel illegal crossings & install more razor wire.” The situation showcases the difficulties faced by states that are left to fend for themselves in securing their borders, even as they face pushback from Washington.

Back in November, Governor Abbott penned a letter directly to President Biden. He didn’t mince words, stating unequivocally that the President’s policies had resulted in “an invasion at our border.” He also detailed the measures Texas was taking in the absence of effective federal action. “We are building a border wall, razor wire & marine barriers,” Abbott wrote. “We are also repelling migrants.”

For those who remember, this is not the first time Texas has clashed with federal agencies over border security. In July, the Department of Justice (DOJ) took legal action against the state for setting up a buoy barrier on the Rio Grande as part of Abbott’s Operation Lone Star—an initiative aimed squarely at curbing illegal immigration. The DOJ’s lawsuit against Texas claimed that the buoy barrier obstructed “the navigable capacity of waters of the United States” and raised “humanitarian, environmental and public safety concerns.” The case, somewhat predictably, is still tangled up in the courts. Initially, a federal judge instructed Texas to remove the buoys, but that decision was stayed by the U.S. Court of Appeals.

All of this paints a sobering picture for conservatives who believe in strong border security as a cornerstone of national sovereignty. It’s increasingly clear that states like Texas are going it alone, taking measures to secure their own borders while the federal government seems more focused on obstructing those very efforts. Whether it’s cutting razor wire or launching lawsuits, the message from Washington remains dishearteningly consistent: don’t count on us to uphold the integrity of America’s borders.
