As information comes out regarding Madonna’s recent health scare, it appears that the condition of the famed pop sensation was more severe than initially known, prompting some sources to describe it as a “near-death experience.”
A representative of the 64-year-old music icon announced last week that she had been admitted to an intensive care unit in a New York City hospital, following an incident where she was found “unresponsive” on June 24.
RadarOnline reported that Madonna required a Narcan injection – a medication used to rapidly reverse opioid overdoses, as defined by the National Institutes of Health – when she was discovered.
It’s noteworthy to mention that the report also stressed that there is “absolutely no implication Madonna needed Narcan due to adverse effects of drug misuse.”
In addition to reversing opioid overdoses, Narcan is also utilized to counteract septic shock, a critical medical condition resulting from dangerously low blood pressure levels.
The celebrity news platform highlighted that Narcan is a staple in the medical emergency kits of high-profile individuals.
Madonna’s spokesman informed the media that she was hospitalized due to “a severe bacterial infection,” according to the same RadarOnline report.
It also revealed that the star had spent numerous days on a ventilator while her family was advised to “brace for the worst.”
At the time of the incident, the “Material Girl” singer had been rehearsing for her upcoming Celebration world tour, which was scheduled to begin on July 15 in Vancouver.
Sources reportedly disclosed to RadarOnline that Madonna had been overexerting herself in preparation for her 84-date world tour, resorting to painkillers to endure.
Friends of the star voiced concerns to The U.S. Sun about her exertion levels, comparing her situation to that of pop legend Michael Jackson, who tragically died in 2009 while preparing for his “This Is It” tour.
The same sources emphasized that Madonna’s perceived need to compete with younger performers may have been a factor in her health crisis, stating, “many of us feel that the constant remarks about her age have put pressure on her to compete, so we are relieved that she has been forced to take time out and put her health first.”
Another source, referred to as an “insider,” imparted to The Sun that Madonna had overworked herself to the point of exhaustion, and that those around her were gently reminding her that she isn’t as young as she used to be.
“If she can get herself back in shape, the tour will have a whole lot more buzz around it, and she’s already got loads of publicity — even if it’s the wrong kind,” the insider said.
In light of the incident, Madonna’s publicist Guy Oseary published an Instagram post saying that all commitments, including the tour, are on pause.
He promised that more details about the star’s condition and rescheduled tour dates will be shared as soon as they become available.
