On Sunday night, an unsettling discovery was made in the West Wing of the White House. Officials have now confirmed that a white powdery substance, initially identified as suspicious, is indeed cocaine.
ABC News initially reported on Wednesday that U.S. Secret Service had confirmed the substance to be the illicit drug after thorough testing.
However, this revelation ignited a storm of speculation about the possible connection to Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son. Hunter has had a public history of battling addiction to cocaine and crack and was recently spotted at the White House. Despite rampant speculation, no official comment has been made about Hunter being under any suspicion.
In an official statement, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed, “The item was sent for further evaluation and an investigation into the cause and manner of how it entered the White House is pending.”
The New York Post quoted a source familiar with the investigation, detailing that the cocaine was located inside a small plastic baggie nestled in a cubby, a commonplace spot for staff and guests to store personal items. Upon discovery, the White House was briefly evacuated.

Initial reports erroneously identified the library on the ground floor as the location of the find. Later, officials familiar with the incident clarified that the drugs were found in the West Wing holding area. At the time, President Biden was away at Camp David for the holiday weekend, returning to the White House on Tuesday morning.
On Wednesday, neither President Biden nor his top spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, offered detailed comments about the cocaine discovery. A question shouted to President Biden in the afternoon about the cocaine went unanswered.
Later, during the daily briefing, Jean-Pierre stated, “I’m just not going to get into hypotheticals from here. Let the Secret Service do their job. It is under their purview. We are confident they are going to get to the bottom of it. I’m just not going to get ahead of this at this time.”
When asked if the White House would support the prosecution of the person responsible, Jean-Pierre again deferred to the Secret Service, adding that President Biden believes this issue to be very important.
The press secretary noted that there were staff-led tours in the West Wing over the weekend. When probed about specifics of where the cocaine was discovered in the West Wing, Jean-Pierre said, “When people visit the West Wing, there is an area of the West Wing where it is highly traveled.”
“That is what happens. People come through this area that is highly traveled. I’m just not going to get into specifics. I’m not going to get ahead of the Secret Service. I’ll let them speak to that,” she continued.
Jean-Pierre, also refused to speak about security measures, declining to comment on whether security cameras covered the area where the cocaine was discovered.
The media and pundits are having a field day with this story.
Glenn Beck tweeted, “I don’t think a talk show host has EVER reported about the Secret Service finding COCAINE at the White House. If only there were security cameras so we could figure out whether it belonged to Hunter Biden. But no, why would the White House have cameras?!”
Andrea Mitchell commented, “I can’t even fathom anything like this having been found before in the West Wing.”
Greg Gutfield said “We Had a Trans Activist Showing Breasts at W.H., Now Cocaine, ‘It’s Like They’re Running a Low-Rent Strip Club”
Meghan McCain shared, “No Republican president could have someone pose topless on the White House lawn at an official event FOLLOWED BY cocaine being found in the White House and not have the media just go absolutely bat sh#t insane.”
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, if we even hear any more about it.
