The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is facing criticism for its alleged biased approach in the Israel-Hamas conflict, particularly regarding the treatment of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Attorney Marina Medvin reported an incident involving the parents of Doron Steinbrecher, an Israeli held captive by Hamas.

When Steinbrecher’s parents tried to get essential medication to their daughter through the Red Cross, they were reportedly met with a dismissive attitude.

According to Medvin, the Red Cross representatives told the Steinbrechers to consider the Palestinian perspective, highlighting the struggles Palestinians face due to bombings.

This response, which did not include any assurance of delivering the medication, left Steinbrecher’s parents deeply disappointed.

This situation raises serious questions about the Red Cross’s neutrality, an organization known for its humanitarian work in conflict zones.

The response given to the Steinbrechers seems to show a bias towards the Palestinian side, ignoring the humanitarian needs of an Israeli hostage.

Adding to the concern, eight former hostages, who were released during a ceasefire, requested the Red Cross to check on those still captive.

They described their own captivity as marked by a lack of medical care, food shortages, and poor living conditions.

With more than 130 Israeli hostages still in Gaza, as estimated by Israeli officials, the need for humanitarian intervention is crucial.

However, the Red Cross’s alleged behavior, as described by the Steinbrechers and reported in The Jerusalem Post, suggests a potential leaning towards one side of the conflict.

This perception challenges the Red Cross’s image as a neutral humanitarian organization.

The Red Cross’s reported attitude towards the Israeli hostages and their families, particularly in the Steinbrechers’ case, suggests a possible shift in priorities from its primary mission of impartial humanitarian aid to a more politically driven approach.

This could seriously damage the Red Cross’s reputation and effectiveness in conflict areas, where unbiased aid is most needed.
