In a bold challenge to the prevailing view on climate change, an international contingent of scientists, under the banner of the Global Climate Intelligence Group (CLINTEL), has released a declaration denying the existence of a climate emergency and instead highlights the beneficial nature of carbon dioxide.
The World Climate Declaration by CLINTEL stated, “There is no climate emergency… Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific.”
“Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures,” the declaration continued.
The declaration has garnered support from a significant number of professionals. Notably, it carries the endorsement of 1,609 scientists and professionals worldwide, 321 of whom are from the United States.
Historical data and the cyclical nature of Earth’s climate changes are cited by the coalition. They reminded readers of how Earth has undergone several cold and warm periods, such as the Little Ice Age, which concluded around 1850.
“Therefore, it is no surprise that we now are experiencing a period of warming,” the declaration observed. The warming rate currently witnessed, they contend, is “far slower” than what was projected by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Highlighting flaws in the climate models, the coalition stated that they “exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases” and sometimes “ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial.”
They emphasized that CO2 is essential for life and that an increased concentration of this gas has promoted the growth of global plant biomass and has enhanced agricultural yields.
Rejecting a popular notion, CLINTEL refuted claims linking global warming to an upsurge in natural disasters. They assert that there is “no statistical evidence” backing these assertions. The group advised, “Go for adaptation instead of mitigation; adaptation works whatever the causes are.”
Among the eminent signatories are two Nobel laureates: physicists John Francis Clauser from the U.S. and Norwegian-American Ivan Giaever. Clauser, in his discourse with President Joe Biden, expressed dissent with his climate policies.
Recently, Clauser joined the CO2 Coalition, a body that emphasizes the beneficial impact of CO2. Speaking on the topic, Clauser remarked on May 5, “Misguided climate science has metastasized into massive shock-journalistic pseudoscience… In my opinion, there is no real climate crisis.”
Furthermore, the article delves into past erroneous climate predictions. In 1970, certain experts predicted a new ice age by the 21st century. In 1982, Mostafa Tolba, then-executive director of the United Nations environmental program, predicted an “environmental catastrophe” by 2000. Likewise, NASA’s James Hansen in 2008 foresaw an ice-free Arctic within a decade. These projections have not materialized.
As the debate on global warming remains central in the 2024 presidential race, some candidates express skepticism. Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated, “Freedom and free markets are a much better way to stop pollution. Polluters make themselves rich by making the public pay for the damage they do.”
Meanwhile, GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy referred to climate change as a “hoax,” stating that ill-conceived policies are more deadly than climate change itself.
Addressing the hot-button issue of record-breaking temperatures, John Christy, a climatologist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, clarified, “For the conterminous U.S. as a whole, the last 10 years have produced only an average number of records. The 1930s are still champs.”
Lastly, the piece touched upon policies that impact Americans directly. Policies have resulted in restrictions or bans on common appliances in the name of combating climate change.
The Energy Department has recently targeted ceiling fans and gas stoves with stringent energy efficiency rules, adding significant costs to manufacturers. Furthermore, the Biden administration enacted a ban on incandescent light bulbs as of August 1.
This declaration will likely be brushed off by the Biden administration and the woke green agenda leftists who are determined to destroy our energy sufficiency and our economy. However, there are very respected signatories on this declaration. Let’s hope it provides a path for rational discussion.
