In a controversial move that has sparked heated debates about the influence of ideology in education, State of Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters has called for the immediate termination of an elementary school principal who is known for his involvement in the drag queen community.
The principal in question, Shane Murnan, who performs under the stage name “Shantel Mandalay,” has come under scrutiny for his dual role as a drag queen and an educator. Superintendent Walters voiced his concerns in an interview with Fox News Digital, stating, “It’s outrageous to have a drag queen running a school, you know, here in Oklahoma that doesn’t line up with Oklahoma values.”
Walters’s objection to Murnan’s role stems from what he perceives as the infiltration of “woke left-wing indoctrination” and “gender theory” into the state’s educational system.
He contends that such teachings are “completely inappropriate” for young students. The superintendent further asserted that this integration of gender ideology in K-12 education is part of a broader ideological agenda from the left.
“I think that the left has absolutely an agenda for our kids, that they are at war with our kids in the classroom,” Walters remarked. “What they are doing is injecting this ideology for an end goal here.”
“Their end goal is to absolutely break down a child’s mind, break down the classroom, break down the family, and you see the results that have come from this,” he continued. “They want kids to turn on their parents and only listen to their leftist ideology.”

Walters believes that this agenda aims to divide families, with children being encouraged to adopt “gender-fluid” identities and to challenge their parents’ beliefs.
He contends that the introduction of explicit sexual material in classrooms further fuels this divide. According to Walters, this tactic serves to “create Democrat voters” by pushing students toward a more radical ideological stance.
The superintendent emphasized that parents are deeply concerned about their children being exposed to what they view as radical gender theory. “This woke war on our kids has to stop,” he declared, reflecting the sentiments of many conservative parents. “This is the liberal insanity that every parent wants out of the classroom.”
Walters concluded by asserting, “We will not allow our kids to be part of their radical-left game for pushing ideology and furthering their end goal, which is creating social justice warriors instead of students that understand how education is a path for success for them. We will not allow it. This will stop.”
Aside from the ideological controversy, it has come to light that Murnan has faced previous charges related to child pornography. While these charges were ultimately dismissed over two decades ago, it is certainly cause for concern.
Fox News Digital discovered records indicating that all of Murnan’s electronic devices were subjected to a subpoena at the time, but the charges were dropped due to an inability to prove that the images involved individuals under the age of 18.
In response to the revelation, the school district acknowledged the prior charges in a Facebook post, stating, “Recently we were made aware of previous charges that were dismissed years ago.” The district expressed enthusiasm for Murnan’s vision for John Glenn Elementary School and the community.
Fox News Digital reached out to both the school district and Principal Murnan for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
The situation remains a focal point of debate as the woke left continue to impose their gender fluid beliefs on what is clearly their target audience, our children.
