NextImg:New Host Chosen For 'Wheel of Fortune' After Pat Sajak's Retirement

Ryan Seacrest, a familiar face in daytime television, will replace Pat Sajak as host of “Wheel of Fortune.”

This announcement followed just two weeks after Sajak’s retirement, concluding his impressive 40-year tenure.

The New York Times reports that Seacrest will begin his role in the show’s 42nd season, scheduled for the fall of 2024.

Seacrest conveyed his respect for Sajak’s legacy, stating, “I am truly honored to step into the shoes of the legendary Pat Sajak. Along with the rest of America, I have been privileged to witness Pat and Vanna [White] grace our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, bringing smiles to our faces every night and making us feel at home.”

He praised Sajak’s rapport with contestants and viewers, adding, “Pat, I admire the way you have always embraced the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease. I am eager to learn from you during this transition.”

Reminiscing about his early days, Seacrest mentioned, “Many people may not know this, but one of my earliest jobs was hosting a small game show called ‘Click for Merv Griffin’ 25 years ago. So, this opportunity feels like a true full-circle moment for me, and I am grateful to Sony for granting me this chance.”

Besides hosting “American Idol,” Seacrest’s portfolio includes “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

The New York Times speculates Sony’s prompt appointment of Seacrest might reflect their challenges in replacing the late Alex Trebek on “Jeopardy.”

Despite declining television ratings, “Wheel of Fortune” averages 8.6 million nightly viewers, making it one of the most successful programs today.

As “Wheel of Fortune” enters a new era, audiences can expect Seacrest’s charisma to complement the show’s traditional appeal.
