Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), currently holding the position of Speaker of the House, has told former Speaker Nancy Pelosi to leave her Capitol auxiliary office by the end of the day.
“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” read an email to Pelosi’s office, as reported by POLITICO.
The email further clarified that the room is now designated “for speaker office use.”
This shift in power dynamics emerged after an unexpected alliance formed in the House.

Notably, House Democrats, joining forces with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and an additional seven Republicans — Reps. Andy Biggs (AZ), Ken Buck (CO), Eli Crane (AZ), Bob Good (VA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Tim Burchett (TN), and Nancy Mace (SC) — took the unprecedented step of removing McCarthy from his speakership role.
Such an action is a historic first for the U.S. House.
Pelosi, expressing her frustration, noted her eviction as “a sharp departure from tradition.”
She mentioned her inability to collect her belongings promptly, given her presence in California, where she was paying respects following the demise of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
Reflecting on the events, McCarthy recounted that earlier in January, during his push to garner votes for the speaker’s position, Pelosi had advised him to offer certain concessions to a select group of Republicans who then stood in opposition.
This included potentially permitting a sole member the authority to file a motion to vacate. McCarthy stated that Pelosi had given her word, promising support if such a motion ever came to the fore.
