NextImg:Nation's Oldest Operating Brewery Sticks it to Bud Light With Subtle But Effective Tweet

Amid the ongoing Bud Light drama Yuengling entered the conversation brilliantly with a well-timed tweet that took a slight dig at it’s competitor.

Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth had just posted a statement on Twitter, attempting to ease tensions when the small Pennsylvania-based beer brewery Yuengling sent out its tweet.

The tweet read, “Yuengling, The Oldest Brewery In America. Independently Owned and Family Operated since 1829 because we make good beer,” accompanied by a photo of its traditional lager staged in front of an American flag.

As of Tuesday morning, the tweet had gained more than 4.9 million views and widespread support from fans.

Many Twitter users expressed their intention to switch beer brands. “Just found a new beer,” wrote one user, while another remarked on the “good timing” of the tweet. A third account chimed in, stating, “It just so happens I’m looking for a new favorite beer.”

Yuengling’s tweet was shared shortly after Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth released a statement in response to the controversy that had erupted around Bud Light’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Although Whitworth did not apologize, he acknowledged that the company had never intended to “divide people.”

In his statement, Whitworth wrote, “As the CEO of a company founded in America’s heartland more than 165 years ago, I am responsible for ensuring every consumer feels proud of the beer we brew. We’re honored to be part of the fabric of this country.” He went on to highlight Anheuser-Busch’s employment of over 18,000 people and their commitment to supporting communities, military, first responders, sports fans, and hard-working Americans.

The Bud Light controversy began on April 1 when Dylan Mulvaney announced a partnership with the beer brand.

The partnership included several promotional social media posts and a personalized beer can celebrating the first anniversary of Mulvaney’s “Days of Girlhood” TikTok video series.

The news sparked heated online debates, leading to boycotts supported by country stars such as Kid Rock and John Rich.

However, some Republicans have argued that the boycott should end, given Anheuser-Busch’s financial contributions to the GOP.

In the meantime, Yuengling is enjoying increased online attention.

As the oldest operating brewery in the United States, the brand has a strong appeal to patriotic and conservative-leaning beer drinkers.

Yuengling currently sells its products in 26 U.S. states, having expanded to Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma in February 2023.

With the ongoing Bud Light controversy Yuengling may continue to see growth in their customer base from people who appreciate the beers good taste, long-standing history and independence.
