In an Instagram update, music icon Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has voiced his anxiety over the public safety impact of Los Angeles’s zero bail policy, predicting that the city might face grim consequences.
Jackson brought to light the recent resurgence of the controversial policy in Los Angeles, which now enables defendants of misdemeanors and certain non-violent felonies to escape pretrial detention without paying bail. This policy emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as an attempt to prevent overcrowding in correctional facilities.
The artist’s comments were a response to the reinstatement of the zero bail policy, underlining the ongoing crime situation in the city. He stated succinctly, “LA is finished watch how bad it gets out there.”
Backing Jackson’s sentiments, Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig spoke to Fox News, describing the negative ripple effects the zero bail initiative has on public safety.
“I mean, we have more people being shot at, stabbed, assaulted, robbed, beaten. These are real victims – and the numbers are staggering under zero bail,” Reisig said.
Further supporting this concern, Fox News cited a study revealing that individuals released under zero bail reoffended 70% more frequently than those who posted bail, and their rearrest rates on additional charges rose by 163%.
Despite these statistics, ending cash bail has found favor among leftist circles, who assert that the policy prevents the incarceration of low-income suspects who can’t afford bail.
Last year, Jackson made headlines when he relocated from New York to Houston. He did not disclose the exact reason for his move, but it occurred after he expressed disapproval of President Biden’s tax proposals.
“I Love NY, but i live in Houston now i’ll explain later,” he wrote on social media, where he also discussed a true crime series he produced.
While his relocation sparked speculation, it is worth noting that it happened after he encouraged his followers to “Vote for Trump,” reacting to Biden’s proposed tax plan. In his words, “WHAT THE F***! (VOTE ForTRUMP),” he wrote on Instagram. “I’M OUT. F*** NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway.”
“I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people,” he added, “62% are you out of ya f***ing mind.”
However, Jackson clarified his position, saying he did not support Trump, emphasizing to Extra that he had even declined a $1 million offer to attend Trump’s 2017 inauguration.
“I turned down a million dollars to go to the inauguration [in 2017] — why would I just switch gears now?” he stated.
