Meta, formerly known as Facebook, reportedly increases spending by millions on security for CEO Mark Zuckerberg, all the while the Zuckerberg’s foundation funnels millions to promoting “defund the police.”

The company has reportedly spent a total of $43.4 million on security measures over the last three years to safeguard Zuckerberg, according to information disclosed by Meta and noted by independent journalist Lee Fang.

In its corporate filings, Meta noted that these security expenditures, which rose to $14 million in 2023 from $10 million in previous years, as reported by The New York Post, were justified due to Zuckerberg’s “position and importance to Meta”.

The company also highlighted Zuckerberg’s choice to forgo a hefty salary, bonuses, equity awards or any other incentive compensation, instead opting for a nominal $1 annual salary.

While Zuckerberg’s personal net worth stands at a staggering $13 billion, according to Forbes, it appears his focus also lies in philanthropic pursuits through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

This initiative, co-founded with his wife Priscilla Chan, has been channeling millions into organizations advocating for defunding the police, over the same three-year period.

Among the beneficiaries is PolicyLink, an organization self-described as a “national research and action institute advancing racial and economic equity by Lifting Up What Works.”

It has received $3 million from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. PolicyLink is also partnered with DefundPolice.org, an online resource that supports organizing efforts for defunding police initiatives.

PolicyLink stated in July 2020, “‘Community Policing’ is reformist-reform, a false solution to have us believe better relationships with law enforcement is the answer, when the truth is police officers do not keep us safe or help us thrive. #DefundCOPS.”

Simultaneously, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative donated over $2.5 million to Solidaire, an organization known for battling issues such as “corporate greed, economic inequality, climate change, gender and racial injustice, and anti-blackness.”

In 2022, Solidaire publicized its activist network, which included the “Anti-Police Terror Project” that successfully “removed $18 million from Oakland Police Department’s budget.”

Efforts to reach out to Meta, Facebook, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative for comments by The New York Post reportedly yielded no response.
