Actor Marc Gilpin, renowned for his portrayal of Sean Brody, the youngest son of Police Chief Martin Brody, in the 1978 movie “Jaws 2,” has died at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.

His sister, actress Peri Gilpin, confirmed the news and paid a heartfelt tribute to her late brother and his wife, Kaki.

“Kaki and Marc took care of each other with kindness, strength, dignity, and invaluable humor,” Peri wrote on Instagram.

“When Marc became ill, Kaki and their boys surrounded Marc with love, hugs, and round-the-clock support and care. I just want to say how much I admire Kaki as a wife, mom, first-grade teacher, sister, and sister-in-law and undaunted caregiver. You are an amazing person, Kaki, and it’s so easy to see how much he has always loved you and always will.”

Marc Gilpin’s role as Sean Brody in “Jaws 2” was a significant achievement, winning the role over hundreds of young actors. Although his Hollywood career wasn’t extensive, he made notable appearances in the television program “Fantasy Island” alongside his late younger sister April in 1979. April passed away in 2017.

Additionally, he starred in the films “The Legend of the Lone Ranger” and “Earthbound” in 1981, and later acted alongside Molly Ringwald and the late River Phoenix in the 1985 TV movie “Surviving.”

Following his remarkable performance in “Surviving,” Marc Gilpin garnered attention and caught the eye of manager Jerry Silverhardt. However, he agreed to sign with Silverhardt only if his sister Peri was included in the deal.

Peri Gilpin herself achieved success with her role as Roz Doyle on the hit show “Frasier” in the 1990s and early 2000s. Fans can look forward to her reprising the role in the upcoming “Frasier” reboot on Paramount+.

Marc Gilpin’s acting career came to an end in 1989. He deliberately stepped away from the limelight to pursue other passions. He became a self-taught software engineer and devoted family man, choosing to focus on his personal life away from the entertainment industry.
