A Lowe’s employee in Georgia was left unemployed and with a black eye after attempting to stop shoplifters who were making off with approximately $2,100 worth of merchandise.
Donna Hansbrough, a 68-year-old veteran employee, witnessed three individuals loading up a shopping cart at a Rincon store, just north of Savannah.
The group then left without paying, prompting Hansbrough to intervene.
According to the Rincon Police Department, Hansbrough grabbed onto the cart, which was allegedly being pushed by Takyah Berry.
In response, Berry struck Hansbrough in the face three times.
Berry was accompanied by her uncle, Joseph Berry, and another man identified as Jarmar Lawton.

The three suspects fled the scene with the stolen goods.
Tragically, Hansbrough was subsequently terminated from her job of 13 years for violating company policy by interfering with the shoplifters.
The Effingham Herald reported that the company’s policy advises employees not to pursue or confront thieves.
Hansbrough, overwhelmed by instinct, admitted to grabbing the cart but has little recollection of what happened afterwards.
In an interview with the Effingham Herald, Hansbrough expressed her disbelief at being fired, stating, “I didn’t expect to get terminated. Maybe a reprimand or a suspension. I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just… I just lost it.”
Currently seeking new employment, Hansbrough emphasized her inability to stay idle, saying, “I can’t sit at home. I’m not that type of person.”
