In a heartbreaking incident, a 17-year-old student, Jonathan Lewis, from Rancho High School in Las Vegas has tragically passed away less than two weeks after a brutal assault by a group of approximately 15 individuals according to KLAS News

Jonathan’s father, who shares the same name, confirmed the devastating loss of his son.

The grieving dad described Jonathan as a reserved young man who lived in Las Vegas with his mother but had dreams of moving to Austin, Texas, to be with his father.

Expressing profound sadness over the circumstances leading to his son’s death, Mr. Lewis lamented that many young individuals involved in such acts may not fully grasp the consequences of their actions, stating that “children don’t even know what they’re doing half the time.”

In the face of this heart-wrenching and senseless tragedy, Jonathan Lewis Sr. expressed his hope that this incident can stimulate a broader conversation regarding the issue of youth violence in the city of Las Vegas.

Emphasizing the depth of his love for his children, he found it “unimaginable” that violence could escalate to such a point while also calling for the possibility of forgiveness and reconciliation, urging those responsible to come to terms with the gravity of their actions.

Lewis’ father said he hopes the students responsible for his son’s death are “able to come to terms with what they’ve done.”

The grieving father also disclosed that investigators have informed the family of their intention to charge several students involved in the altercation with murder.

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s homicide unit has undertaken an active investigation into this tragic incident.

As of now, no arrests have been made, leaving a community grappling with sorrow and questions surrounding the circumstances that led to this devastating loss.
