In the world of Hollywood, few can rival the experience and expertise of Kevin Bacon when it comes to navigating tales of the supernatural.

Whether it’s “Flatliners” or “Stir of Echoes”, his silver screen adventures have given audiences chills. But does he let those celluloid experiences dictate his real-world decisions?

Recently, on the “Literally!” podcast hosted by Rob Lowe, Bacon told a story about a property purchase from the past that haunts him to this day.

In 1983, in the picturesque landscapes of northwestern Connecticut, Bacon had been expanding his land holdings. Yet, one parcel remained elusive because of an “abandoned house” which the previous owner had grown up in.

Bacon recounted the owner’s words: “He says, ‘I can’t sell it to you because it’s haunted. I’m afraid that you’ll get possessed and do some serious damage,’” a claim which would give anyone pause.

Yet, the spirit of compromise (pun intended) prevailed, leading to an agreement which stipulated the demolition of the said structure within a month of the sale.

Rob Lowe, with characteristic enthusiasm, inquired if Bacon had dared to spend even a single night in this reputedly haunted dwelling.

Bacon’s response? Not quite.

Despite this, he was still drawn to the house’s charm. “I went up there, and there were some beautiful old pine boards and a banister,” Bacon shared.

Yet, his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, ever the voice of reason, swiftly shut down any thoughts of incorporating those relics into their own home. One wonders if she had echoes of those cinematic hauntings in her mind!

But what about Bacon? After all his reel-life encounters, does he give credence to the spectral?

Speaking to Lowe, he said, “When you’re in a scary movie, everybody wants to know, ‘Have you ever seen a ghost, or do you believe in ghosts?’”

His response? A mix of hope and skepticism. “I would really love to. But as of yet, it just hasn’t happened. But I hope someday that it will.”
