As tensions escalate in the Gaza Strip, Iran has issued a warning to Israel, adding a new layer of complexity to an already volatile situation.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, took to state TV to say that a “preemptive action” against Israel is likely coming within hours.

“Leaders of the Resistance will not allow the Zionist regime to take any action in Gaza,” he declared.

He went on to say, “All options are open, and we cannot be indifferent to the war crimes committed against the people of Gaza,” as translated by Reuters.

These strong words came on the same day that Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi had a phone chat with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. Raisi warned that the fighting between Israel and the Palestinians could spread to other areas.

While he said Iran stands with the Palestinians, he made it clear that the various “resistance” groups make their own choices independently.

Not to be outdone, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke to students in Tehran and made his position clear.

“No one can confront Muslims and the resistance forces if the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians continue. The bombardment of Gaza must stop immediately,” Khamenei said, amid calls of “Death to Israel,” as reported by the Times of Israel and Reuters.

These Iranian comments come at a time when military action is increasing along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.

This area is the home of Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran.

Just last week, Khamenei praised an attack by Hamas on October 7, although he said Iran wasn’t involved. He called the attack an “irreparable” defeat for Israel.

On the Israeli side, the situation is dire. Since a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, over 1,400 Israelis have been killed.

At least 199 others, including babies and children, have been captured and taken into Gaza.

In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and started bombing Gaza. Troops are also being gathered at the border, signaling that a ground attack may be coming soon.

In Gaza, the human cost is staggering. According to local health officials, 2,778 Palestinians have been killed and 9,700 injured. Another 1,200 people are believed to be trapped under rubble.

For every single death, every single person injured on both sides of the conflict the blame can be squarely pinned on Hamas and those who fund the organization.

Sadly, that includes our own government under the explicit orders of Joe Biden. One of the first things he did after occupying the White House was to reverse Trump’s ban on funding the Palestinians.

The world is now paying the price.
