In a loss deeply felt within the music world and beyond, Rudolph Isley, an original founding member of the iconic soul and R&B group The Isley Brothers, has passed away at the age of 84.

The news was confirmed by his family, though a cause of death has not been disclosed.

In a heartfelt statement to CBS News, Ronald Isley, Rudolph’s brother and fellow band member, said, “There are no words to express my feelings and the love I have for my brother. Our family will miss him. But I know he’s in a better place.”

Born into a musical dynasty that had its roots in Cincinnati, Rudolph, along with his brothers Ronald and O’Kelly “Kelly” Isley Jr., propelled The Isley Brothers to fame starting in the late 1950s.

Over a storied career spanning more than six decades, the group crafted a plethora of timeless classics including, but not limited to, hits like “Who’s That Lady?,” “Between the Sheets,” and the rousing “Shout.”

The Isley Brothers’ influence on the American musical landscape cannot be overstated.

Their songs have transcended generational divides, becoming staples in popular culture and often sampled or covered by subsequent artists.

Rudolph decided to take a different path in the late 1980s, stepping away from the spotlight to pursue a life dedicated to ministry.

Yet his and the band’s contributions to music have been widely acknowledged.

In 1992, The Isley Brothers were honored with an induction into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Adding to this accolade, just last year the group received a spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
