House Judiciary Comm Republicans Getting Serious: Impeachment Calls Against AG Garland Gain Traction

Support for an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland is surging among House Judiciary Committee Republicans and very well may gain the support of the Speaker of the House.
The growing momentum comes in response to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s recent threat of impeachment proceedings if the allegations made by an IRS whistleblower regarding the politicization of the Hunter Biden tax probe turn out to be true.
Last week, IRS whistleblowers testified before Congress, revealing that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had twice obstructed United States Attorney David Weiss from bringing stronger charges against Hunter Biden in two separate locations.
They further alleged that Garland had rejected a request to appoint a special counsel to create a level of separation between the DOJ and President Joe Biden.
Gary Shapley, one of the IRS whistleblowers, insists that his claims can be substantiated by multiple individuals who possess firsthand knowledge of his communication with Weiss.
Shapley’s attorney conveyed his client’s position, stating, “It’s up to him and the Justice Department to reconcile the evidence.”
Garland has vehemently denied any political interference by the DOJ in the investigation of the president’s son. He has stated that Wiess had full authority to charge Hunter Biden yet he contradicted himself when he admitted to Congress in March that he held the authority to authorize potential charges against Hunter Biden, even in a separate “jurisdiction.”
These conflicting accounts prompted McCarthy to issue a threat of impeachment proceedings against Garland should the whistleblower allegations be verified.
Several Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee, in conversation with Breitbart News, expressed their support for McCarthy’s consideration of an impeachment inquiry.
It is important to note that impeachment proceedings must originate from the House Judiciary Committee before progressing to a full House vote.
“It’s not an empty threat,” declared senior committee member Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). “Congress can’t just look away from the culture of corruption that’s there for all to see, and the possibility of impeachment has to be on the table”
“From the start, AG Garland has allowed partisan politics to hold sway in the Justice Department — including the unprecedented targeting of parents,” he added.
Representative Harriet Hageman (R-WY) echoed these sentiments, stating, “Whistleblower allegations related to the Hunter and Joe Biden investigation make it abundantly clear a two-tiered system of justice exists today.”
“I fully support Speaker McCarthy on this issue and welcome the opportunity to question Mr. Garland in Judiciary Committee hearings,” she said.
“The Department of Justice, and the entirety of the federal government, must be a fair and impartial agency that enforces federal law, but under current leadership, it is a political weapon used to punish opponents of the president,” she continued.
Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Troy Nehls (R-TX) also expressed their support for impeachment proceedings in statements provided to Breitbart News through their senior staff members.
Congressman Nehls absolutely supports McCarthy’s position that Garland should be impeached,” said Nehls’ Communications Director Taylor
Hulsey.
“Congressman Biggs is on board,” confirmed Matthew Tragesser, Communications Director for Biggs.
Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) echoed these sentiments in a clip shared with Breitbart News by his Communications Director, Nate Madden.
“That certainly raises questions of impeachability. There is no question about that,” Roy said. “That’s what inquiries are for … We’ve got an obligation on the Judiciary Committee to pursue it wherever it goes.”
McCarthy, appearing on Fox & Friends on Monday, reaffirmed his commitment to initiating impeachment proceedings against Garland if the whistleblower allegations are substantiated.
“Yesterday, I laid out very clearly by July 6, because of the allegations of the IRS, because of the whistleblowers and Garland — what he is saying and what Weiss is saying are two different things,” McCarthy said.
“And if it is true what the IRS whistleblowers are saying, we will start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general” McCarthy affirmed.
