Former CIA Director John Brennan condemned Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) over her defense of an accused U.S. intelligence leaker, saying she was not fit to hold public office.
In an MSNBC interview, Brennan said, “From my perspective, I think Marjorie Taylor Greene has demonstrated time and time again that she’s not fit to hold public office with some of her commentary that she has made, even previously.”

Brennan also expressed concern about Greene’s access to sensitive information due to her role in Congress and position on the House Homeland Security Committee, adding, “I believe she should not be involved in any type of sensitive, classified information.”
Greene recently defended Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira, who was arrested and charged this week in connection with the leak of hundreds of sensitive and classified military documents, including information about the war in Ukraine and other national security issues.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Greene argued that Teixeira’s background made him an enemy to the Biden administration, questioning who the real enemy was between a “young low-level national guardsman” and the administration involved in Ukraine.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) criticized Greene’s comments, asserting that she “cannot be trusted with America’s national security information.”
Additionally, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) denounced Greene on Thursday for siding with “one of the biggest traitors America has seen.”
While Greene has been critical of U.S. aid to Ukraine against the Russian invasion, Brennan argued that it is possible to be critical of such assistance while still supporting information security.
He explained, “And if you do have that [view], you can still decry and condemn the unauthorized disclosure of our classified information that has been damaging to our interests abroad.”
