In a development that throws a revealing light on the ideological leanings of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., a former aide has been reported as holding a senior role within the New York State Communist Party.

The New York Post first broke the news that Justine Medina, 33, had worked extensively for Ocasio-Cortez’s 2020 campaign, earning an estimated $35,000.

After her tenure with the congresswoman, Medina climbed the ranks to become the “Co-chair of the New York Communist League,” as announced by the People’s World, a publication affiliated with the Communist Party.

Further deepening her ties to the party, Medina now serves on the Executive Committee of the New York State Communist Party, and is also involved with the Amazon Labor Union at JFK8.

During her time with Ocasio-Cortez, Medina was in charge of “organizing and writing policy language with Anti-War Veterans & the Peace Movement.”

An exploration of Medina’s older tweets, as highlighted by The Post, reveals her unabashed dedication to communism.

She even linked her alignment with this radical ideology to her work with Ocasio-Cortez, stating in an October 2020 tweet: “[W]ell, I am a Communist, but work for AOC & helped start Queens DSA’s Electoral WG, so I def see utility in working on the Dem ballot line!”

In a separate tweet, Medina presented communism as promoting “equality, democracy, peace, the advancement of workers, the oppressed and humanity in general.”

She ominously warned that those who “block progress” towards communism would face an “unkind” path, yet she claimed, “[B]ut communism is good and shouldn’t scare you.”

Following the release of The Post’s article, Medina seemed to celebrate the exposure, tweeting, “Friends, I have an announcement to make,” and linking to the article.

When asked whether she followed Maoist or Leninist communism, she declared her allegiance to “Marxist-Leninist-Robesonist” ideology, referencing Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Paul Robeson.

Despite attempts by contemporary communists to dilute the ideology’s legacy, history recalls the catastrophic impact of communism in the 20th century, where it resulted in the death of over 100 million people.

Leaders like Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot, who implemented brutal programs and policies under the banner of communism, were responsible for mass starvation, cultural genocide, and the death of millions.

Medina’s prominent alignment with such a destructive ideology raises concerns about the influences within Ocasio-Cortez’s inner circle.
