In a shocking turn of events, a Florida police officer found himself facing legal trouble after being apprehended for reckless driving and evading a sheriff’s deputy.

The incident unfolded last Friday when Orlando Police Officer Alexander Shaouni was caught speeding to work in his marked patrol car, without utilizing any lights or sirens. Dashcam footage revealed that Shaouni was traveling at an alarming speed of 80 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Upon witnessing Shaouni’s dangerous act, a sheriff’s deputy promptly activated his lights and pursued the speeding officer. However, Shaouni managed to evade the deputy, disappearing from sight and leaving the deputy to reach speeds exceeding 100 mph in an effort to catch up.

After an intense chase, the deputy finally caught up to Shaouni when the officer briefly pulled over, only to swiftly drive off again. During a heated exchange, the deputy questioned Shaouni’s behavior, to which the officer responded defensively, stating that he was simply on his way to work. Shaouni even pointed to his uniform, proudly displaying his Orlando police vest, as evidence of his intentions.

“What are you doing?,” Shaouni asks. “I am going into work, my man, why are you trying to pull me over as I’m going into work?”

“Because you are going 80 in a 45,” the deputy responded.

“I am going to work,” Shaouni retorted, while showcasing his uniform. “What does it look like I’m dressed for, what does it look like I’m dressed for.”

Undeterred by the deputy’s explanation, Shaouni refused to provide his driver’s license and defiantly returned to his patrol car, speeding away once again, with the deputy in pursuit.

According to a booking report, Shaouni is now facing charges of resisting an officer, reckless driving, and fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and sirens active.

In the aftermath of the incident, authorities were able to identify Shaouni through his badge and police cruiser number. Additionally, bodycam footage clearly displayed his name written across the chest of his police vest.

Consequently, the Orlando Police Department wasted no time in taking action, relieving Shaouni of his duties pending investigations by both the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and the department’s Internal Affairs unit.

“The Orlando Police Department was notified by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, June 9th that OPD Officer Alexander Shaouni was involved in an incident that occurred in Seminole County that resulted in criminal charges,” stated the Orlando Police Department in a message to WESH 2 News.

“Officer Shaouni has been relieved of duty pending the Seminole County Sheriff’s criminal investigation and OPD’s Internal Affairs investigation.”

The swift response from the Orlando Police Department demonstrates their commitment to maintaining public confidence and ensuring that justice is served.

This incident should be the standard for law enforcement and all government to hold individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their professional position. It would go a long way in promoting trust and integrity that has become so lacking in our country.
