In a recent interview with the Messenger, Dean Cain, celebrated for his portrayal of Superman, expressed his happiness following his move from Southern California to Las Vegas.
His departure from Malibu, where he sold his home for $6.25 million, was driven by dissatisfaction with California’s political and regulatory climate.
Cain criticized the state’s excessive taxation, stringent regulations, and what he perceives as unreasonable laws.
“I had to leave California. California has gone crazy in a sense. There’s been so much. Look at the taxation. Look at the regulations. Look at the silly laws that have been passed. There were things that I didn’t agree with, and I’ve been voting here and living here and working here my entire life. I finally got to a place where I was like, I don’t agree with this,” he said.
Cain’s choice of Nevada was influenced by its lack of personal income tax, a factor he appreciates for the significant savings it offers.
He also enjoys the ease of travel from Las Vegas compared to Los Angeles, along with the quieter, more peaceful environment.
“It’s the quietest place I’ve ever slept in my life. When I got here and saw traffic, I was like, ‘What is this foreign substance? I don’t like it anymore.’ I don’t deal with that at all. It’s great,” Cain noted.
Despite relocating, Cain’s acting career remains robust.
In the past year, he has worked on ten projects outside Los Angeles, citing high costs and numerous restrictions as reasons why many are choosing to film elsewhere.
Cain’s criticism of California isn’t new.
He has previously spoken out against the state’s taxation policies, which he feels are excessively burdensome.
Additionally, Cain has voiced concerns over California’s growing homelessness issue and its associated rise in violent crime.
Moreover, Cain has been a vocal critic of certain California policies, particularly those related to crime, homelessness, and fiscal matters.

He argues that these policies are driving people away, particularly those who can afford to leave.
“The policies are just terrible. The fiscal policies, the soft-on-crime policies, the homelessness policies,” he stated in June. “The things that our leaders in California have been doing have driven out anybody who can really afford to get out. People are flocking out of there in droves.”
A recent California bill, which Governor Gavin Newsom eventually vetoed, also drew Cain’s ire.
The bill would have required judges to consider a parent’s encouragement of a child’s gender identity in custody cases.
Cain expressed his alarm at the potential implications of such legislation, relating it to a hypothetical situation with his son.
“If I were to end up in a custody case with somebody over an adolescent child who thought they were … like my son thought he was a bird, he wanted to be a bird when he was young,” Cain said.
“And if I didn’t affirm his ‘birdness,’ they might have tried to take that child away from me. Which is some of the crazy things that are going on in California when it comes to that, when it comes to schools.”

Cain joins a growing list of celebrities, including Scott Baio, Sheryl Crow, Katy Perry, Kat Von D, and 50 Cent, who have chosen to leave Los Angeles for new beginnings elsewhere.
