In a recent eye-opening interview, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed why he decided to buy and rebrand Twitter as X.
Musk told Joe Rogan on “The Joe Rogan Experience” that he bought the social media platform because he saw it as an “information weapon” spreading what he calls the “woke mind virus.”
Musk was explicit about his concerns: “I mean, this is gonna sound somewhat melodramatic, but I was worried about that it was having a corrosive effect on civilization, that it was just having a bad, a bad impact.”
Musk blamed part of Twitter’s influence on its location in downtown San Francisco.
Describing the area around the new X headquarters as similar to a “zombie apocalypse,” he said, “It’s crazy. You can’t believe it until you go there.”
Musk believes that Twitter gave a global platform to ideas he thinks have negatively impacted San Francisco.
These ideas, he said, were “effectively given an information weapon, an information technology weapon to propagate what is essentially a woke mind virus to the rest of Earth.”

Musk also criticized the way this “mind virus” limits free speech.
He said the ideology relies on censoring opposing viewpoints because it can’t survive on its own. In his view, the former Twitter management played the role of censor.
Musk’s comments provide valuable insight into his motivations for one of the most talked-about corporate buyouts in recent years.
Until now, many thought Musk’s decision was purely a business move.
But it turns out there’s an ideological reasoning behind it, too.
His acquisition of Twitter has ignited debates about the influence of social media on public opinion and social norms.
Now that he’s in charge of the platform, many eyes will be on Musk to see how he guides X in the realms of tech ethics, free speech, and societal impact.
With Musk’s reputation as a disruptive force in the tech world, the move to buy Twitter was already generating a lot of discussion.
But these new comments are bound to add another layer to the ongoing conversation about social media’s role in shaping our world views.
Whether you agree with him or not, Musk’s influence is undeniable, and how he manages X could set new precedents in the ever-evolving dialogue around technology’s role in society.
