NextImg:Dylan Mulvaney Speaks Out on Bud Light, Nike Controversies, Instantly Makes Things Worse

Dylan Mulvaney, a trans-identifying influencer, broke her silence in a recent interview with Rosie O’Donnell, addressing the controversy surrounding her partnership with Bud Light and the ensuing backlash that has led to ongoing boycotts.

Mulvaney, who has only recently transitioned, believes she has become an “easy target” for critics.

Speaking to O’Donnell on the “Onward” podcast, Mulvaney said, “The reason that I think I am so…I’m an easy target is because I’m so new to this. I think going after a trans woman that’s been doing this for like 20 years is a lot more difficult. I think maybe they think that there’s some sort of chance with me … But what is their goal?”

The TikTok star lamented the way her words and actions are often taken out of context and used against them, adding, “These people, they don’t understand me and anything that I do or say then somehow gets taken out of context and is used against me and it’s so sad because everything I try to put out is positive.”

Earlier this month, Bud Light faced intense backlash after announcing a brand partnership with Mulvaney.

The beer company sent the influencer a custom beer pack featuring her face on the cans to celebrate the first anniversary of Mulvaney’s transition.

Mulvaney has also partnered with various other brands, including Olay, KitchenAid, Kate Spade, Ulta Beauty, Tampax, and Nike women’s athletic wear.

During the interview, Mulvaney told O’Donnell they had tried “to be the most uncontroversial person this past year,” despite promoting products typically marketed to women, such as bras and tampons.

O’Donnell brought up the controversies directly, noting that beer companies have long supported the LGBTQIA community.

She said, “Who do you think sponsors pride? Gay people, trans people, we drink beer, too, man. Put down your gun, Kid Rock, it’s in bad taste,” referencing a video of the rock star shooting at cases of Bud Light.

Mulvaney acknowledged the challenging times, stating, “It’s just a heavy time. And it’s time to step up, for sure,” but also insisted that critics are not a concern.
