NextImg:Donald Trump Officially Reveals His Endorsement For Speaker of the House

Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) for the position of Speaker of the House.

This endorsement arrives after a group of Republicans allied with the entire House Democrat Caucus to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speaker role earlier in the week.

Speculation about Trump’s next moves had been brewing, with reports suggesting he might personally visit Capitol Hill to rally the caucus before the subsequent speaker vote.

Trump showered praises on Jordan via a social media post.

He highlighted Jordan’s pre-political stardom and his accomplishments before he started representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District in Washington, D.C.

Trump mentioned that as a President, he had awarded Jordan the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s top civilian honor.

The former president then proceeded to enumerate some of Jordan’s achievements from his earlier years.

Trump fondly recalled Jordan’s remarkable high school wrestling record where, representing Graham High School, he clinched State Championships for all four years, boasting a staggering 156-1 record.

Trump also emphasized Jordan’s collegiate success, highlighting his tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where Jordan emerged as a two-time NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion, winning championship matches for his weight category in 1985-86.

Trump further bolstered Jordan’s qualifications by pointing out his academic credentials.

Jordan holds a master’s degree in Education from Ohio State University, as well as a Law Degree from Capital University.

Trump also underscored Jordan’s policy stances, portraying him as a staunch defender of crime prevention, border security, military and veterans’ welfare, and the 2nd Amendment rights.

Trump wrapped up his endorsement by lauding Jordan’s family and expressed unwavering support, stating Jordan has his “Complete & Total Endorsement.”

Even before Trump’s endorsement, a significant number of influential Republicans had indicated their support for Jordan over another contender, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) endorsed Jordan, commending his leadership abilities, professionalism, and his potential to unify the Republican conference.

Other notable Republicans backing Jordan encompassed Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Representatives such as Thomas Massie (R-KY), Byron Donalds (R-FL), and Ronny Jackson (R-TX), among others.

This public endorsement by Trump has dispelled circulating rumors about his potential interest in the Speaker role.

These rumors, which were even hinted at by Trump himself, revolved around the possibility of him being elected Speaker of the House, a historic first, given that no individual outside of Congress has ever held the position.

However, with the House Republicans holding only a slender majority, Trump would need an almost unanimous vote, a challenging feat given the evident internal opposition.

Furthermore, a failed attempt at securing the speaker position could adversely affect his presidential campaign image.

Additionally, a significant hurdle for Trump’s potential speakership lies in the Republican Party’s own conference rules.

As per these rules, GOP leaders must resign if indicted for a felony with a potential prison sentence of two or more years. Trump is currently facing multiple indictments, amounting to 91 felony counts.

This regulation mirrors policies maintained by the Democrats.

A case in point from the recent past is when Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) had to relinquish his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee due to multiple felony charges connected to an alleged bribery scheme.
