The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reportedly expanding its witch hunt investigation into former President Donald Trump, now examining his connections to the LIV Golf tour.
The Trump Organization has received subpoenas for records related to its relationship with the golf tour, according to The New York Times.
While the exact relevance of Trump’s ties to LIV Golf within the broader investigation remains uncertain, the inquiry suggests that prosecutors are delving into specific aspects of Trump’s family business.
The former president’s golf courses, Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey and Trump National Doral in Miami, hosted LIV events in the previous year and will continue to do so this year.
Trump’s resort in Potomac Falls, Virginia, near Washington, D.C., is also slated to host an event.
The connection between the LIV-related subpoenas and the ongoing investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida is not immediately apparent.
In July of last year, Trump participated in the LIV pro-am at Bedminster, attracting significant criticism for hosting the Saudi-backed tour near Ground Zero.
Families of 9/11 victims were particularly vocal in their condemnation of Trump’s decision.
However, the former president defended his actions, stating, “Nobody’s gotten to the bottom of 9/11, unfortunately.”
Trump also expressed his longstanding relationship with individuals in Saudi Arabia, noting their investments in numerous American companies and their contributions to golf.
He participated in the pro-am event alongside golfers Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau, as well as his son Eric Trump.
Since the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago estate in August, Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
As the DOJ continues its investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents, the recent subpoenas regarding his connection to the LIV Golf tour signal a possible expansion of the probe.
