A prominent figure within the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Shivanthi Sathanandan, found herself at the center of a shocking and violent carjacking incident this week.

Despite her previous vocal support for the dismantling of the Minneapolis police department, Sathanandan expressed her gratitude towards law enforcement and called for the prosecution of those responsible.

Taking to Facebook, Sathanandan recounted the harrowing experience that unfolded before her eyes. She revealed that she had fallen victim to a carjacking, perpetrated by “four very young men, all carrying guns.”

This ordeal took place right in front of her own home, in broad daylight, and in the presence of her children. The aftermath left her with serious injuries, including a broken leg and deep lacerations on her head and body.

Sathanandan also made it clear that she harbored a deep sense of frustration over the apparent lack of accountability when it came to criminal offenders.

In her own words, she asserted, “These men knew what they were doing. I have NO DOUBT they have done this before. Yet they are still on OUR STREETS. Killing mothers. Giving babies psychological trauma that a lifetime of therapy cannot erase. With no hesitation and no remorse.”

This traumatic incident shook Sathanandan to her core, prompting her to make a resolute call for action.

She emphasized the need to rid the streets of illegal firearms and to apprehend the young individuals responsible for the chaos that has gripped the city. Her message was straightforward: “HOLD THEM IN CUSTODY AND PROSECUTE THEM. PERIOD.”

In a passionate plea, she urged her fellow citizens to remember her face as a stark reminder of the consequences of allowing juvenile offenders to roam freely, rather than holding them accountable for their actions.

Despite her recent ordeal, Sathanandan did not forget to express her gratitude to the Minneapolis 4th Precinct Officers, Mayor Frey, Chief O’Hara, Paramedics, neighbors, friends, and her DFL family for their support during this terrifying experience.

This incident, however, raises a glaring disparity. While Sathanandan now acknowledges the indispensable role of law enforcement in times of crisis, her past social media posts revealed a different story.

During the height of the George Floyd riots in June 2020, she had ardently championed efforts to “dismantle” the Minneapolis Police Department, as seen in her Facebook posts.

“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me. DISMANTLE. The. Minneapolis. Police. Department,” she declared at the time.

“As allies, what can we do right now? LISTEN and LEARN from our Black siblings. And then AMPLIFY this message right now, in this moment. MPD has systematically failed the Black Community, they have failed ALL OF US,” she continued. “It’s time to build a new infrastructure that works for ALL communities. If you are still disagreeing with that BASIC FACT, I’m not sure what to say to you.”

Sathanandan had also expressed pride in the “radical leadership and organizing” of individuals like Jeremiah Bey Ellison and Phillipe Cunningham, who were at the forefront of efforts to reform the police department.

In another post, she lauded the removal of the Minneapolis Police Department from public schools, indicating a strong inclination towards reforming law enforcement practices.

FOX News Digital sought comment from Sathanandan regarding this incident, but at the time of reporting, no response had been received.

In the face of this unsettling turn of events, Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin extended his sympathies, stating, “I am heartbroken at the news of Shivanthi’s attack. It is my sincere hope that the people who assaulted Shivanthi are quickly brought to justice and face punishment commensurate with the severity of their crimes.”

“My heart goes out to Shivanthi and her family, and I hope their recovery from such a horrifying experience is as swift as possible,” he continued.

It is amazing how quickly one will change their position when faced with the stark realities of their deluded ideologies. Sathanandan, once championed the dismantling of the very institution that she now credits for coming to her aid in a moment of dire need. It is likely as violent crime has become rampant in cities across the US that she will not be the only one to change their tune.
