In a brutal surge of religiously motivated violence in Nigeria, at least 140 Christians were slain as they prepared for Christmas celebrations, marking a grim chapter in the country’s sectarian conflict.

This is not a clash over resources but a deliberate and systematic attack on Christian communities by Muslim extremists. Plateau Gov. Caleb Mutfwang described the situation in a broadcast.

“As I am talking to you, in Mangu local government alone, we buried 15 people. As of this morning, in Bokkos, we are counting not less than 100 corpses. It has been a very terrifying Christmas for us here in Plateau,” Mutfwang said according to Breitbart.

The scope of the massacre is horrifying, with entire villages such as Mangu and Bokkos witnessing unprecedented carnage. Amnesty International Nigeria’s office, through its director Isa Sanusi, confirmed the death toll and emphasized the targeted nature of these attacks, stating, “The brazen failure of the authorities to protect the people of Nigeria is gradually becoming the ‘norm.’”

This statement not only speaks to the negligence of Nigerian authorities in preventing these attacks and protecting its Christian population but glaringly points out the lack of media and international outrage and attention to the ongoing crisis.

Sunday Dawum, a youth leader from Bokkos, recounted his personal tragedy, “I called security but they never came. The ambush started 6 in the evening but security reached our place by 7 in the morning.” More than 27 people, including his brother, were killed in his village, Mbom Mbaru, he said.

The attackers, widely believed to be from the Fulani Muslim group, have not claimed responsibility, yet their involvement is inferred from the pattern of previous attacks and mass murder against Christian communities for which they have been accused.

There has been a significant escalation over resources including access to land and water, revealing a deep-seated religious animosity driving the violence as Muslim groups violently persecute Christians in their communities.

“We will not rest until we bring all those culpable for these dastardly acts to book.” However, without tangible results and in the absence of a strong and vocal condemnation from President Bola Tinubu, these promises ring hollow for the grieving Christian community.

This incident isn’t just a local or national tragedy; it’s a stark reminder of the international community’s failure to effectively address and prioritize the issue of religious violence in Nigeria.

The consistent underreporting and lack of outrage over such attacks contribute to a dangerous norm where the persecution of Christian minorities is overlooked or minimized.

The Christian community in Nigeria is facing an existential threat from extremist groups, and the world must respond with unequivocal condemnation and support, yet the world remains silent, including the United Nations.

Apparently the UN is too busy condemning Israel for defending themselves against the Muslim terrorist regime, Hamas, who brutally tortured and massacred over 1200 people, taking another 270 hostage, to notice a mere 140 Christians.
