In the face of global unrest, the teachings from the Gospel of Matthew offer a message of hope.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
Pastor Ken Spicer shared these verses with Fox News Digital, highlighting the role of faith during challenging times.
St. Matthew, known for his journey from a tax collector to a disciple of Jesus, symbolizes change and redemption.
Today’s global challenges, including economic crises and civil unrest, are pushing the Christian community towards deeper reflection and prayer, says Pastor Spicer of Hope Family Church in Quitman, Arkansas.
He mentions that these issues are guiding the church into a “posture of prayer.”
The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, especially around Israel and the Gaza Strip, are also connected to divine promises, according to Spicer.
He explains, “The issues…are not a matter of God being indifferent,” but relate to “God promising the land to Abraham” in the Old Testament.
Spicer emphasizes the unique historical connection between Israel and its ancestral land: “No nation in history has ever been dispersed from their ancestral homeland as long as Israel was and returned to their original land with their language, culture, and national identity intact.”
Some biblical scholars see the current tensions in the Middle East as possibly aligning with ancient prophecies.
However, Spicer stresses the importance of maintaining love, faith, and hope during such tumultuous times.
The chaotic world, he says, “requires those who love God and love people to be sensitive to the opportunities around us to facilitate faith, hope, and love, even in situations that seem devoid of all three.”
In this era of uncertainty, Spicer urges the church to be a “beacon of light,” showcasing hope and the teachings of Christ.
Through good deeds done in His name, believers can lead others towards hope: “He alone is the hope of all mankind,” Spicer reiterates.
Amid the despair, the narrative of divine promises intertwined with human determination forms a compelling story, urging the Christian community to hold onto faith and prayer as a way to navigate through the current global challenges.
