NextImg:California University Faces Backlash Over Pro-Palestinian Rally Poster Showcasing Paraglider

California State University in Long Beach is under scrutiny after student groups, led by the La Fuerza Student Association, publicized a contentious pro-Palestine rally poster that contained imagery of a paraglider – an ominous reminder of Hamas terrorists’ recent deployment of such aircrafts during their ground invasion in Israel, slaughtering hundreds of innocent people.

Promoting the “Day of Resistance: Protest for Palestine” event, the controversial poster depicted protesters holding a Palestinian flag with a paraglider in the backdrop.

“Join us and CSU Students United Against Apartheid tomorrow at the Central Quad from 1:30 – 4:30,” announced La Fuerza, continuing with their assertion of the gathering’s intent: “We will be rallying and marching in support of the Palestinian liberation and against Zionist occupation in Palestine.” Their message ended with a rallying cry, “FROM PALESTINE TO THE PHILIPPINES, STOP THE US WAR MACHINE.”

Social media became a battleground, as the poster invited severe criticism. An individual remarked on platform X, “This is sickening that no one has taught them better.” Another questioned, “how can a university student be so completely out of touch with the reality of Saturday’s slaughter?”

This incident is not isolated. Across the nation, various student organizations have been vocal in supporting those responsible for the violent incursion into Israel, leading to kidnappings and mass deaths of civilians.

Among them is the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) who are organizing a National Day of Resistance. Already, campus chapters from Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Butler University, University of Louisville, University of Binghamton, and the University of Virginia have planned events. The Anti-Defamation League also reports off-campus events organized by Michigan State University and University of Mary Washington’s SJP chapters.

Alarmingly, the SJP’s national body labeled Hamas’ brutal assault on Israelis as “a historic win for Palestinian resistance,” urging direct armed confrontations. Their National Day of Resistance Toolkit now seeks to transplant this “spirit of resistance” to US college campuses.

Further, multiple SJP chapters, such as at the University of California, San Diego and California State University Sacramento, have openly endorsed Hamas. Additionally, 31 student groups at Harvard University hold Israel “entirely responsible for” Hamas’ actions, asserting that the Israeli government has incarcerated Palestinians in an “open-air prison for over two decades.”

These assertions have attracted widespread condemnation, including a hard-hitting critique from former Harvard University president and past Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers. On his X social media platform, Summers expressed his deep disappointment with Harvard’s leadership and the stance of the student groups.

“Instead, Harvard is being defined by the morally unconscionable statement apparently coming from two dozen student groups blaming all the violence on Israel,” Summers penned, concluding with “I am sickened.”
