Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has announced that he is “absolutely” considering a run for the presidency of the United States.
In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Walker, Manchin expressed his willingness to do anything to help the country and stated, “Every American should consider it if they’re in a position to help save the country.”
Manchin’s decision comes in the wake of his announcement that he will not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2024, a move that has garnered significant attention.
In explaining his decision, Manchin cited a belief that President Joe Biden has been “pushed too far to the left,” emphasizing that the current direction of the administration does not align with the vision he had in mind when Biden was elected.
In his interview, Manchin expressed a commitment to mobilize the moderate, sensible, and commonsense middle of American politics.
He aims to ensure that the nation does not veer too far to the left, advocating for a balanced and pragmatic approach to governance.
Manchin’s potential presidential bid is expected to resonate primarily with those on the center-left, as he represents a more centrist voice within the Democratic Party.
As Manchin contemplates a presidential run, his decision not to seek reelection to the Senate signals a significant shift in the political landscape.
It remains to be seen how his candidacy, if he chooses to pursue it, will impact the dynamics of the 2024 presidential race.
