Nikita Snow, the girl’s mother, took to TikTok to shed light on the situation, sharing a video that displayed seven officers from the West Yorkshire Police entering their residence and proceeding to detain her daughter. Snow vocally expressed her dismay in the clip, highlighting her daughter’s medical conditions, including autism and scoliosis.

According to Snow, the officers held the girl for an extended period of almost 20 hours. Following the incident, the young girl was subsequently released, with a statement from the police mentioning that further investigations would be overseen by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest have caused many to scrutinize the UK’s hate crime legislation, which currently identifies a hate crime as any incident perceived by the victim or another person to be influenced by hostility towards someone’s sexual orientation or transgender identity.

As the video continues to circulate online, the West Yorkshire Police department released a statement advising the public to approach the incident with caution. The statement emphasized that the footage offers a limited perspective on the events that transpired. They added that the teenager seemed to be inebriated and was potentially endangering herself.

The police department’s statement also shed light on their commitment to the welfare of young individuals in their custody, especially those with neurodiverse conditions. They further stressed the importance of ensuring that their personnel are treated with respect in their line of duty.
