The American Medical Association (AMA) has recently proposed that taxpayers be responsible for funding uterus transplants for transgender women.

With a staggering price tag of up to $300,000 per procedure, this proposition has stirred outrage in conservative circles.

The suggestion, found in the AMA’s June “Patient-Centered Transgender Surgical Care” issue of their Journal of Ethics, raises crucial questions: Should taxpayers finance such an experimental, niche and frankly ridiculous procedure? Where should the line be drawn when allocating funds for medical innovation? What is the actual point of transplanting a uterus into a biological male?

Timothy F. Murphy and Kelsey Mumford, two woke researchers from the Journal of Ethics, argue that the inability of trans women to bear children may lead to psychological distress, undermining their well-being. They believe that lacking a uterus limits trans women from full societal participation attached to a woman’s identity.

However, Dr. Marty Makary, a surgeon and public policy researcher at Johns Hopkins University, vehemently opposes this direction, emphasizing the AMA’s shift towards activism rather than critical research in transgender medicine.

Speaking with Fox’s Fox & Friends, Dr. Makary voiced concerns over the current dearth of research on regret rates post-transition surgery and long-term complications from hormone treatments.

Despite the debate, medical advances continue.

The University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB) recently began offering uterus transplants to select patients.

While Dr. Paige Porrett of UAB acknowledges the medical feasibility of such transplants for transgender women, she emphasizes the need for caution due to potential risks.

While uterus transplants remain rare, with roughly 100 known cases worldwide, the question remain: Why in the world should taxpayers be financially responsible for such procedures?

If you oppose the use of tax dollars to support these kinds of surgeries here are three things you can do today:

Raise Awareness: Host community sessions, distribute literature, and use social media platforms to educate about the opposition to using taxpayer dollars for such surgeries.

Engage with Policy Makers: Write to local and state representatives, attend governmental meetings, and utilize public comment periods to voice concerns.

Collaborate for Impact: Start or join petitions, align with advocacy groups, and leverage collective efforts to amplify the message and rally broader support.
