Cosmetics company Maybelline is the latest brand to face boycotts over its collaboration with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The backlash originated from a TikTok video in which the 26-year-old showcased the makeup line while celebrating a first year of openly identifying as a woman.

The promotional post triggered protests against Maybelline, similar to the boycotts against Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light for featuring Mulvaney in a social media advertisement.

Numerous individuals criticized Maybelline on various platforms and urged others to stop buying the company’s products.

One TikTok user commented, “Thank you. I won’t be buying this product.” On Twitter, users expressed their disapproval, with one saying, “The latest fools to employ Dylan Mulvaney are make-up company Maybelline. Get woke, go broke.”

Another called for a trending hashtag, writing, “Time for #BoycottMaybelline to trend since Maybelline used Dylan Mulvaney as their sponsor.”

It is uncertain whether the boycott against Maybelline will have the same impact as the one against Bud Light, which has seen a significant drop in sales.

NielsenIQ and Bump Williams Consulting data reveal that Bud Light sales decreased by 17% in dollars, and volume declined by 21% in the week ending April 15.

The campaign featuring Mulvaney has generated considerable negative publicity for Anheuser-Busch. The company recently announced that marketing executives Alissa Heinerscheid and Daniel Blake, responsible for partnering with Mulvaney, are taking leaves of absence.

In addition to Bud Light and Maybelline, Mulvaney has partnership deals with major brands such as Nike, Amazon Prime, KitchenAid, and OkCupid.
