A fifth group of migrants has been transported from Brownsville, Texas, to Los Angeles, California, as part of an ongoing effort by the Lone Star State to relocate migrants to major cities across the United States.

According to Fox 11, approximately 48 migrants, including 18 minors, arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday morning. The two buses carrying the migrants reached Union Station at approximately 11:30 a.m.

In a statement from Mayor Karen Bass’ office, it was noted that the city had been working in collaboration with various departments, the county, nonprofit organizations, and faith partners to execute a plan that had been established earlier this year.

The office stated, “As we have before, when we became aware of the bus yesterday, we activated our plan.”

Upon arrival at Union Station, the migrants were transported to Cathedral High School.

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles informed ABC 7 that the migrants were evaluated for any medical issues, provided with food, and given access to other necessary resources.

The group added that most of the migrants have already been reunited with their families.

CHIRLA also mentioned that many of the migrants had engaged with officials and already had established asylum cases.

This is not the first time buses of migrants have been sent from Texas to Los Angeles.

The first group arrived in June, and multiple relocations have taken place since then, including over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Saturday’s buses marked the third set of arrivals in the city within the last 10 days, with the previous buses arriving on Tuesday.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, has taken responsibility for these migrant relocations.

Starting last year, Texas began sending buses of migrants to several sanctuary cities, such as New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

However, the leaders of these cities, who had previously committed to protecting illegal immigrants and not enforcing federal immigration laws, have stated in recent months that they lack the resources to accommodate more migrants.

Governor Abbott has reiterated that Texas will continue to relocate migrants to these cities until the federal government addresses the ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
