A Washington Post columnist has the hots for the vice president’s husband, Doug Emhoff.
Last week, Post columnist Catherine Rampell published a bizarre orgasm of a column calling Emhoff a “progressive sex symbol.”
“Move over, Ryan Gosling. The modern female fantasy is embodied by the man who might soon become our first First Gentleman,” Rampell wrote. “Emhoff appears to be a genuine mensch with an impressive career. He’s smitten with his wife and supports her ambitions, as is obvious from his convention speech and their sweet interactions on the campaign trail.”
“But most important for this sexy sobriquet,” Rampell added, “Emhoff is secure enough with his own masculinity to sometimes prioritize his wife’s ambitions over his own. What. A. Hunk.”
Emhoff also apparently cheated in his last marriage and knocked up the nanny. What. A. Creep.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions,” Emhoff said once the allegations surfaced. “I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”
Great, but imagine being a person so wrapped up in identity politics — as wrapped up as a Washington Post writer — that watching politicians do something you celebrate gets you horny. It’s cringe and embarrassing, just like when leftists started calling themselves “Cuomosexual” in 2020 before the New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, resigned in disgrace over a “MeToo” scandal. Oops.

And let’s also not pretend Emhoff is selflessly postponing his own career ambitions for the sake of his wife’s ascendence in presidential politics. Being a presidential spouse is no sacrificial career move; it’s almost a career of its own — see Hillary Clinton. The Obamas meanwhile, became so fabulously wealthy after leaving the White House that they have multiple homes, from Chicago and Martha’s Vineyard to a mansion paradise on the islands of Hawaii. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, meanwhile, went on to sign multimillion-dollar book deals upon her family’s exit from the Oval Office.
In other words, marriage to a president was good for business.
