On Saturday, President Donald Trump activated the National Guard after Democrat leaders in California failed to quell the violent riots triggered by law enforcement arresting criminals. The decision drew swift condemnation — not because it was unlawful, but because Democrats are desperate to deflect attention from their own failed leadership and policy positions.

ICE agents executed warrants based on “specific criminal activity” in Los Angeles on Friday, which ultimately led to more than 100 arrests, according to Fox News, which cited border czar Tom Homan. The arrests sparked violent, ongoing riots, with officers being attacked and police vehicles being vandalized. As California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass seemingly sat idly by, Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard troops on Saturday. Marines have also begun mobilizing to protect federal property and personnel, according to Fox News.

Trump invoked 10 U.S. Code § 12406, which permits the president to “call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion, or execute those laws.”

The propaganda press, however, is trying to frame the decision as though it is uncharted territory to try and cast doubt on the legitimacy of Trump’s decision and deflect from why Trump had to do this in the first place.

The New York Times’ Shawn Hubler and Laurel Rosenhall headlined their piece: “Trump Is Calling Up National Guard Troops Under a Rarely Used Law.”

The article acknowledges the move is completely legal but tried to frame it as suspect, writing that it’s the “first time since 1965 that a president has activated a state’s National Guard force without a request from that state’s governor,” as if the legality of a law depends on how recently it was invoked.

The Washington Post’s Justin Jouvenal and Alex Horton said Trump was “chart[ing] new territory in bypassing Newsom to deploy National Guard.” They quoted “some legal experts” to declare the move “unprecedented,” adding it relies “on an unorthodox use of a law aimed at quelling serious domestic unrest or an attack on the United States by a foreign power.”

MSNBC ran a similar narrative, publishing a piece by law professor Rachel E. VanLandingham, who labeled the move “unprecedented,” though she, too, had to admit it’s legal.

But here’s where the hand-wringing becomes absurd.

When 50 illegal aliens were sent to Martha’s Vineyard by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the reaction from the left was, well, military deployment. The rich folk of Martha’s Vineyard couldn’t bear to have 50 illegal aliens living in their wealthy little town, so they called in the National Guard to get the aliens out of Martha’s Vineyard and to Joint Base Cape Cod.

In a statement, Gov. Charlie Baker’s office said the move was to ensure “these individuals will have access to the services they need going forward” and that “Joint Base Cape Cod is well equipped to serve these needs.”

The reality is simple: The affluent residents didn’t want to deal with illegal aliens. They didn’t want to reap the consequences of the open-borders policy that some of the community’s most well-known residents (like former President Barack Obama) had championed — open border policies that have led directly to the chaos unfolding in Los Angeles.

The only real difference between the two National Guard deployments is that Trump is using the National Guard to confront violence and lawlessness while Democrats used it to sanitize their backyards.

Americans understand now, perhaps more than ever, that mass migration is at war with their interests. It’s why their support for Trump’s mass deportation plans continues to be strong. The sight of foreign nationals and their sympathizers burning American flags in the streets while parading Mexican flags is an obvious declaration against American sovereignty — it is a physical manifestation of the open borders and mass migration policies Democrats and their media allies have championed for years.

So of course the left has to feign outrage about the invocation of the National Guard because they need to shift the focus onto Trump and deflect from the fact that it was their “leadership” that led to both open borders and the riots.
