Former Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wants Americans to believe that President Donald Trump’s decision to send the National Guard to Los Angeles to help law enforcement quell the rock throwing, car burning, and looting is hypocritical and even “contra-constitutional” in light of the events of January 6, 2021.
Her insistence that she “begged the President of the United States to send in the National Guard” to the Capitol that day, however, is a proven lie. In fact, it is well documented that Pelosi was the reason boots on the ground were delayed.
“He would not do it,” Pelosi claimed on Tuesday during a press conference surrounded by other Democrats. “Not only would he not do it, one law enforcement — people were being harmed, some later died. He would not send it in. And yet, in a contra-constitutional way, he has sent the National Guard into California. Something is very wrong with this picture.”
Pelosi, frazzled from what she claimed was a traffic delay, also claimed that the chaos at the Capitol that day was an “insurrection that he incited” and complained that he “forgave those people” who were jailed due to Democrats’ lawfare.
Trump did not “incite an insurrection” on January 6. In fact, his calls for law and order that day were censored by Big Tech.
More importantly, Trump was not the one who “caused critical delays” in the J6 response.
It was Trump who tried to station 10,000 National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. ahead of the election certification, evidence of which Democrats’ J6 Committee suppressed. His plans, however, were hampered when he faced pushback from the Pentagon.
As former Chief of Police of the United States Capitol Police Steven Sund noted shortly after Pelosi’s remarks on Tuesday, he made “11 urgent calls requesting National Guard support on Jan 6, starting at 12:58 PM.”
“Approval was withheld for 71 minutes by the House Sergeant at Arms, who reported directly to Speaker Pelosi,” he wrote on X.
Pelosi tried to dispel questions about her role by claiming, “I have no power over the Capitol police.” Footage released by House Republicans last year shows Pelosi admitting responsibility for the lack of National Guard on J6.
“Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” Pelosi asks in the documentary clip. “They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more.”
House Republicans previously established in their 2022 probe into the J6 security failures that Pelosi’s office had coordinated closely with senior security officials before the certification of the 2020 election, but worried about the “optics” of enhanced police and National Guard presence.
As now-FBI Director Kash Patel noted in The Federalist last year, “once the Capitol Police and Mayor Bowser finally made the lawful request for the National Guard, Trump’s Department of Defense implemented the fastest cold start of the National Guard since World War II.”
